A Kintsugi (gold repair using genuine lacquer) artist and instructor based in Saitama Prefecture.

 

After graduating from Bunka Fashion College, I built upon the aesthetic sense and ability to perceive materials that I cultivated in the apparel industry.

It all started when I broke a teacup that my mother, who is involved in pottery, had made for me.

I learned how to repair metalwork using genuine lacquer.

 

Currently, under the name "Tsuguurushi," he repairs pottery, creates works, and teaches classes.

This project showcases the appeal of Kintsugi, a traditional Japanese technique of repairing broken metal.

 

What I value most is the concept of "beauty in utility," which has been passed down in Japan since ancient times.

Vessels are not just for decoration; they are passed into people's hands and used in their daily lives.

I believe that its beauty will only deepen.

He applies genuine lacquer and gold repair not only to Japanese pottery but also to antiques from other countries.

We create each piece carefully, respecting the history and individuality of each item.

 

For me, a work of art is only truly complete when it leaves my hands and is used in someone's daily life or on their dinner table.

That is precisely the "beauty of utility" that I cherish.
